*) This roof made from bamboo. It was taken from the bamboo forest. But, local can’t just take it from bamboo forest, they need permit from local authority (old wise people).
Penglipuran heritage village is a beautiful heritage highland village in the regency of Bangli, Bali. Penglipuran village established in Bangli kingdom era. It’s best known for its everlasting culture and beutiful village landscape.
Penglipuran village has awesome pedestrian zone and beautiful manicured garden. It’s located in front of the houses, along the the way from the gate towards the temple. The Penglipuran village situated at around 700 meters above the sea level. It’s offering you cool atmosphere and clean-fresh air.
Penglipuran words consist of two words, Pengeling and Pura. Pengeling means reminder or remembering. Pura means ancestor. No argue, it’s best known as it’s everlasting heritage culture. It’s so unique, different than others in Bali. The heritage rules and punishment still exist and applied in everyday life. Even for spatial and architectural set of rules, it’s not changing since hundreds years ago.

*) It’s nice to see youth villagers working together to make ‘Penjor’ and set it up. No one pay for them. But, they are happy making it together to welcome ‘Galungan day’.

About 58 km northeast of Ngurah Rai airport or 1 hour and 45 minutes from the airport.
HOW TO GET TO THE LOCATION?
There is no public transport to get there.
*) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this village and use google maps as your navigator.
MOBILE PHONE SIGNAL:
Strong signal for your smartphone.
Some restroom and toilet. Better bring your own tissue.
Some house selling snacks, foods and juice.
Local dogs and rooster:
*) If the thief is caught, then the punishment is to return the four chickens with feathers of different colors to the four temples around the village. So, all the villagers will know who did it. Seems it’s a social punishment than criminal punishment. Looks like it’s more effective.
*) In the highest terrace above the houses terrace you will found a temple. As a holy place, it located in the highest terrace.
