WHAT IS BHINEKA JAYA?

DESCRIPTION:

Bhineka Jaya is a pioneer coffee shop in Bali. It was established in 1935 in the dutch colonization era and just sell Bali coffee. Their product popular with brand “Bola Dunia”. It was belong to Tjahjadi family and the coffee shop name was ‘Bian Ek’. Then turn to ‘Bhineka Djaja’ (Bhineka Jaya) as the change of the owner. They just sell coffee powder, not a cafe who sell coffee drink. But, since 1997 they change as a cafe and selling coffee drink in the same place.

Bhineka Jaya cafe located in Gajah Mada street. It is the heritage area or old town of Denpasar city. The architecture influenced and combined by dutch architecture and local architecture. These vintage shops established in 1935 in the dutch colonization era, it located in the heritage Badung market. This market was center of trading since Badung kingdom era. Many seller from China, Arab and India who trading in the Badung market and then they stayed near the market. That’s why this area famous as chinese town or arabian town in Bali.

LOCATION:
Jalan Gajah Mada, no 80, Denpasar, Bali.

DISTANCE:
About 23 km southwest of Ubud or 1 hour.
About 11 km northeast of Kuta beach or 30 minutes.
About 15 km northeast of Ngurah Rai airport or 37 minutes.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There is no direct public transport to get there. You have to take multiple public transport to reach this place.

From UBUD:
Please take a Mini/Micro Bus at Ubud – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Bemo/Angkot at Batubulan – Stop at Ubung Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Bemo/Angkot at Ubung – Stop at Tegal Sari Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

  • Fee: IDR 20K + IDR 15K + IDR 15K.
  • Timetable: No.

Other option:
Please take a Mini/Micro Bus at Ubud – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Bemo/Angkot at Batubulan – Stop at Kreneng Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

From KUTA:
Please take a Mini/Micro Bus at Kuta Central Parking – Stop at Tegal Sari Mini/Micro Bus Station.

Then take a walk to reach this place.

From Ngurah Rai Airport :
Please to reach Ngurah Rai International Gate first – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop at Kuta Central Parking.
Then take a Mini/Micro Bus at Kuta Central Parking – Stop at Tegal Sari Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

*) It’s really not efficient trip using public transport in Bali. Waste your time, energy and money. There is no fixed price in Bali transportation system, except Trans Sarbagita. If the passenger full loaded you will get the price above, but if quiet (little) passenger you will pay more expensive. Seems they applied operational cost basis since the public transport not so popular today (quiet).

**) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this place and use google map as your navigator.

***) You can also use Go-jek or Grab transport. Their price reasonable, but you have to install the apps first and the driver may not be able to speak english.

****) If you use a car, you need put the car on the west of the cafe near the market/river.

*) I’m so lucky that a friend told me about this legendary cafe in Bali. Yes, you have to visit and taste the authentic Bali coffee in here.

*) After the 6 times visits i just realized that they have an ice cream. I was arrived there when the electricity shut off (blackout). The waiter said that they can’t make a coffee and asked to wait till the electricity turn on. Then i saw the other customer beside me ordered an ice cream. Yes, i decided ordered the same things.

*) The taste of the espresso so strong and bitter. That’s why it become balance when it mixed with the sweet ice cream.

THE ICE CREAM WITH THE PISTACHIO TASTE

*) The ice cream so smooth and tasty. It’s suitable on the (hot) sunny day in Denpasar.

**) I love the pistachio taste. This is my first pistachio ice cream Affogato.

*) It nice to have experience tasting the authentic Bali coffee in the legendary/oldest coffee shop in Bali. Even you can walk around the heritage area nearby such as local market, river, palace and oldest museum. I think you should visit and taste the authentic Bali coffee here.

    This is one of the few coffee bars where they sell more than 20 different types of coffee from different parts of Indonesia.

      Yes, they also sell different types of coffee from Indonesia.
      But, the most popular in here is Bali coffee.

    I love this coffee shop. It is conveniently located near to Kumbasari Market and has excellent coffee which is also very good value. Wonderful olde world atmosphere. Afogato and cappuccino highly recommended. Great place for people watching in the old Quarter of Denpasar.

    This is a place with unique atmosphere on the island! Here I tasted the most delicious coffee in Bali. I also bought here the best souvenirs for my friends.
