LOVINA BEACH (Pantai Lovina) – A rush Boat Trip for Watching the Dolphin in the Morning

WHY BACKPACKER SHOULD VISIT THIS BEACH?

This beach located in the north Bali.
The famous spot to watch wild Dolphin.

Unlike touristic beach, this beach is less visitor.
So quiet, you can enjoy sunbathing here.

There is no official entrance fee.

DOLPHIN MONUMENT ON THE LOVINA BEACH

DESCRIPTION:

Lovina beach or well known as Bali Dolphin beach is a beach in the north Bali which has calm wave and grey sand. It’s not crowded beach like Kuta, Lovina beach offering quiet and peaceful atmosphere. This beach famous as dolphin spot in Bali and in the early morning the traveler has to take a small boat (Jukung) for watching the dolphins. It became common (routine) view in the morning, dozens small boat (Jukung) so rush chasing the dolphins. Lovina beach also known as a place for snorkeling. You can do snorkeling after watching sunrise or before the sunset.

In 1953 Mr Anak Agung Panji Tisna  built the pilot cottage and named it as ‘Lovina cottages’. Lovina consist of two words, ‘Love’ and ‘Ina’. Ina means mother in balinese language or ‘mother earth’ for exactly. So, Lovina mean ‘Love to Mother Earth’. But, his cottages project not succeed because in 1960 the capital of Bali moved from Singaraja to Denpasar. Also in 1980 the Bali governor not recommended to use ‘Lovina’ brand because the words was not origin from local language. So, it changed to ‘Permata cottages’.

After two decades the tourism business is raise up.The travel agent and the businessman request for back to the real name to boost the tourism area. Then the ‘Permata cottages’ change  to ‘Lovina Beach Hotel’. Today Lovina beach become popular and Lovina beach location span along two kilometers or six villages beaches between Buleleng sub district and Kaliasem sub district.

WHEN THE BEST TIME TO VISIT IT?

DRY SEASON:
April  – October.

*) July to September are the most ideal months to visit this beach since it is little rain and sometime no rain et all.

**) If you visit on December or January the wave is on the highest level. You will have strong shaking on the boat, maybe you will vomiting.

SUNSET TIME:
6.40 PM – 6.45 PM.

*) The color gradation start on 6.15 PM.

HOW MUCH IS THE ENTRANCE FEE?

ENTRY TICKET:
Free.

PARKING FEE:
IDR 5K (Car).

DOLPHIN TOUR BY A BOAT:
IDR 100K per person.

*) The rate IDR 100k per pax is with condition, the number of traveler must 5 person or more. Otherwise, they will charges IDR 500K as minimum price for less than 5 persons.

**) When the low season sometime you will get cheaper price. IDR 70K per pax.

SNORKELING TOUR BY A BOAT:
IDR 100K per person.

*) Min 2 person per boat.

**) When the low season sometime you will get cheaper price. IDR 50K per pax.

*) You have to start the dolphin tour on 5.30 AM or before the sunrise. So, you will reach the dolphin spot in the right time and in the right place.

A RUSH BOAT CHASING THE DOLPHINS

*) I think the dozens small boats chasing the dolphins will disturbing the dolphins it self. It should not chasing the dolphins. But, the dolphins should come to you.

*) You need to wait and see for the Dolphins show up.

*) If you have a luck, you will found the dolphin jumping or ‘salto’ in front of you.

THE TRAVELER ON THE SMALL BOAT

*) You will found so many trash floating on the water. It seems education and law can not make any change to the bad indonesian attitude. What a shame!

*) The boat navigator used an ex paint bucket to take the leakage water. Very smart and wise act!

About 80 km northwest of Denpasar or 1 hour and 30 minutes.
About 73 km northwest of Ubud or 2 hours and 30 minutes.
About 86 km northwest of Kuta beach or 3 hours.
About 93 km northwest of Ngurah Rai airport or 3 hour and 10 minutes.

HOW TO GET TO THE LOCATION?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There is no direct public transport to get there.

*) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this beach and use google map as your navigator.

THE BOAT GOING BACK TO HOME

*) After watching the Dolpins show, we going back to the beach. But, it’s so windy on the way back. I recommend you to bring your windproof jacket for the Dolphin tours.

*) He show his hospitality by treat us with hot tea and snacks. It’s perfect drink after the ‘windy dolphin tours’.

*) Even in the mid of the sea, i still have a Telkomsel signal.

RESTROOM/TOILET:
Some restroom and toilet. Better bring your own tissue.

Some shop, cafe and restaurant on the area.

*) Tanjung Alam seafood restaurant is 2 km west of Lovina beach. It’s good seafood restaurant with the local price & it has nice view. If you don’t like spicy food better you request without chili sauce & yellow sauce.

*) I suggest you to stay overnight in Lovina beach. Watch the sunset and enjoy the nightlife in the cafe/bar along the beach. Then in the early morning start for the dolphin tour. After that you can continue for snorkeling or go to Banjar hot springs.
