WHAT IS SOEKASADA UJUNG?

DESCRIPTION:

Taman Soekasada Ujung Water Palace  is a royal park which located near to Lombok straits. It has nice garden, pools and good landscape. Around the area you will see so many tree, plants and fishes in the pools. At outside of the water palace you can see rice terrace and sea view. Soekasada Ujung park has wide open area. It’s about 400 hectares of land, but after Reformasi Agraria (land reform) in 1960 it become 10 hectares only. Some of the land distributed to Karangasem people. 

Soekasada Ujung water palace belongs to royal family of Karangasem kingdom. It was a royal ‘Dirah’ pool established on 1901 by King Anak Agung Gede Djelantik. Then his son King Anak Agung Bagus Djelantik who have a title Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem continue build and expand this pool become a water palace.

In 1909 the king appointed a Dutch architects Van Den Hentz and a Chinese Loto Ang to design the water palace. The result is a combination of Balinese, European & Chinese architecture.

On 1963-1964 mount Agung erupted, it broke the water palace and buried the pools with mud, sand and ash. Then the Seririt earthquake in 1976 made it worse. In 1998 the restoration been made by Indonesia Archeology board. Then in 2001 Karangasem Tourism board continue restored it.

7.00 AM – 7.00 PM.

WEEKDAY:
Monday – Friday.

*) It will be crowded if your visit on weekend or Indonesian holiday.

PUBLIC EXERCISE HOURS:
Morning: 5.00 AM – 8.00 AM.
Late afternoon: 4.00 PM – 7.00 PM.

*) It will be so many local doing physical exercise in these hours. Normally they do jogging here.

*) If you lucky you can see Seraya mountain and Agung volcano clearly without any clouds.

About 70 km northeast of Denpasar or 2 hour.
About 58 km east of Ubud or 2 hour.

About 81 km northeast of Ngurah Rai airport or 2 hour and 15 minutes.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There is no direct public transport to get there. You have to take multiple public transport to reach this place.

From UBUD :
Please take Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) at Ubud – stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) to Amlapura, Karangasem at Batubulan – stop at Karang Sokong Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take an Angkot to Seraya – stop at Soekasada Ujung park.

  • Fee: IDR 20K + IDR 30K + IDR ?K
  • Timetable: No.

From KUTA :
Please to reach Kuta Central Parking first – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) to Amlapura, Karangasem at Batubulan –  stop at Karang Sokong Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take an Angkot to Seraya – stop at Soekasada Ujung park.

  • Fee: IDR 3,500 + IDR 30K + IDR ?K
  • Timetable: No.

From Ngurah Rai Airport :
Please to reach Ngurah Rai International Gate first – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) to Amlapura, Karangasem at Batubulan – Then, stop at Karang Sokong Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take an Angkot to Seraya – stop at Soekasada Ujung park.

From North DENPASAR:
Please take a Bemo/Angkot at Ubung – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.

Then take an Angkot to Seraya – stop at Soekasada Ujung park.

From South DENPASAR:

*) It’s really not efficient trip using public transport in Bali. Waste your time, energy and money. There is no fixed price in Bali transportation system, except Trans Sarbagita. If the passenger full loaded you will get the price above, but if quiet (little) passenger you will pay more expensive. Seems they applied operational cost basis since the public transport not so popular today (quiet).

**) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this water palace and use google maps as your navigator.

*) The building above called as Bale Gili. Bale means a hall. Gili means small island. So, Bale Gili means a hall in the small island.

*) Telkomsel SIM card has better service than other operator.

RESTROOM/TOILET:
Some restroom and toilet. Better bring your own pocket tissue.

CAFE/RESTAURANT:
Some shop outside of the water palace selling snacks and souvenirs.

*) I suggest you to have lunch at outside of water palace. They have grilled fish with affordable price. It located near the beach.

*) Seems it’s a nice place to bring your children into this park. Also you can introduce or educate them about vegetable plants.

OTHER NICE SPOT:

BALE KAPAL

*) This building remain you how strong Seririt earthquake on 1976. It broke the roof.

**) Bale Kapal has nice view. You can see the whole Soekasada Ujung park, sea view, horizontal line and the ships. That’s why this building named as Bale Kapal, it’s means a hall to see the ships.

*) Bale Kambang means a floating hall.

*) Taman Soekasada Ujung water palace located near to Lombok straits. It has nice park, manicured grass, fresh air, sea view and mountain view. It’s good place for relax, chilling and refresh your mind.
