DESCRIPTION:

Ubud market is popular as a souvenir and craft market. It become famous since Walter Spices, Rudolf Bonnet & Antonio Blanco lived in Ubud around 1930’s. Ubud market existed approximately in the same period of Ubud palace, it was around 1800’s. Today Ubud market become an economic machine for the local people. It attract a lot of visitor/tourist who stayed in Ubud village.

*) Ubud market in early morning was such a nice experience. You can find tropical fruits, vegetables, some spices and local snacks.

About 26 km northeast of Denpasar or 1 hour.
About 0 km of Ubud or few minutes walking.
About 37 km northeast of Kuta beach or 1 hour and 20 minutes.
About 39 km northeast of Ngurah Rai airport or 1 hour and 20 minutes.

There is no direct public transport to get there. You have to take multiple public transport to reach this place.

From UBUD :
If you stay in Ubud area you can just walk to this place.

From KUTA :
Please to reach Kuta Central Parking first – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Mini/Micro Bus at Batubulan – Stop at Ubud.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

  • Fee: IDR 3,500 + IDR 20K.
  • Timetable: No.

From Ngurah Rai Airport :
Please to reach Ngurah Rai International Gate first – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Mini/Micro Bus at Batubulan – Stop at Ubud.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

  • Fee: IDR 3,500 + IDR 20K.

From DENPASAR :
Please to reach  ‘Pesanggaran’ or ‘Pedungan’ Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte first.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Mini/Micro Bus at Batubulan – Stop at Ubud.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

Please to reach Ubung Mini/Micro Bus Station first.
Then take a Bemo (Angkot) at Ubung – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take Mini/Micro Bus at Batubulan – Stop at Ubud.

  • Fee: IDR 15K + IDR 20K.
  • Timetable: No.

– Batubulan Micro/Mini Bus Station.
– Ubung Micro/Mini Bus Station.

*) It’s really not efficient trip using public transport in Bali. Waste your time, energy and money. There is no fixed price in Bali transportation system, except Trans Sarbagita. If the passenger full loaded you will get the price above, but if quiet (little) passenger you will pay more expensive. Seems they applied operational cost basis since the public transport not so popular today (quiet).

**) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this place and use google map as your navigator.

***) You can also use Go-jek or Grab transport. Their price reasonable, but you have to install the apps first and the driver may not be able to speak english.

*) Some tropical fruits supplies really depend on the season. Don’t surprised if you can’t find it or maybe limited supply and expensive. But, when the season come, it’s super cheap. For example, red dragon fruit sells for IDR 10K per kg on the season.

**) The coconut water in the Ubud early moning market is just IDR 10K only. This is the best deal. If you buy on the cafe it will be around IDR 25K-35K.

*) The tropical fruit, fresh vegetables and interesting local snacks are the most hunted by travelers in the early morning. But, in the day time it’s a popular place to buy cute trinkets, natural bags and nice dress.

*) You won’t see anything if you visit on holy hindus day. All the seller and mostly are local people busy in home town to celebrate and welcoming those big days.

HOW TO GET THE CHEAP PRICE?

USE THESE TRICKS:
1. Bargain the price.
2. Pretend to leave the seller.
3. Talk in local language.

*) Always bargaining to get low price. Nothing to loose to try this trick. You can try ask 30%-50% of their first price.

**) After you bargain the price and you say “No, too expensive” and pretend to leave them. Sometime they will call you back and lowering their price by them selves. You can continue bargain until you get the price that you want (deal).

***) Use Balinese language when talk to the seller is an effective way to get cheap (local price). I always use this trick. 😉

****) Well, you don’t have to be expert in Balinese language. Just remember some vocab and number in Balinese. Then you will get cheap price and plus bonus: respect and smile from the seller.
