WHAT IS UBUD MONKEY FOREST?

DESCRIPTION:

Ubud monkey forest  is the most popular sight in Ubud. It become must see place for many traveler who visit Ubud. It’s located in the south of Ubud royal palace. This forest also near the cafe, restaurant and hotel in Ubud area.

This sanctuary truly well managed. You can see the list of monkey population and the number of monkey group. This place also become first destination of monkey researcher from all over the world.

*) Tumpek Kandang is a hindu ceremony for praying all the animals, stock and pets for to be healthy. Usually hundreds local pilgrim come to the temple inside of the monkey forest. Then they pray together. After that they distribute thousand of fruits and eggs to the monkeys. This ceremony is a form of harmonization to the nature and grateful to the God.

*) If you bring a bag (paper or plastic) or bottle, i recommend you to entrust and left it at ticket counter. Sometime the monkey curious with your bag and try to steal it .

**) There are three gate to enter Ubud monkey forest. Two gate on the north and one gate on the south.

***) Update info: The Gate 1 on the north moved to the east side.

About 25 km northeast of Denpasar or 1 hour.
About 0 km of Ubud or a few minutes walking.
About 36 km northeast of Kuta beach or 1 hour and 20 minutes.
About 38 km northeast of Ngurah Rai airport or 1 hour and 20 minutes.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There is no direct public transport to get there. You have to take multiple public transport to reach this place.

From UBUD :
If you stay in Ubud area you can just walk to reach this place.

From KUTA :
Please to reach Kuta Central Parking first – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) at Batubulan – Stop at Ubud.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

  • Fee: IDR 3,500 + IDR 20K.
  • Timetable: No.

From Ngurah Rai Airport :
Please to reach Ngurah Rai International Gate first – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) at Batubulan – Stop at Ubud.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

  • Fee: IDR 3,500 + IDR 20K.

From DENPASAR :
Please to reach  ‘Pesanggaran’ or ‘Pedungan’ Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte first.
Then take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then take a Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) at Batubulan – Stop at Ubud.
Then take a walk to reach this place.

Then take a Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) at Ubung – Stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.

*) It’s really not efficient trip using public transport in Bali. Waste your time, energy and money. There is no fixed price in Bali transportation system, except Trans Sarbagita. If the passenger full loaded you will get the price above, but if quiet (little) passenger you will pay more expensive. Seems they applied operational cost basis since the public transport not so popular today (quiet).

**) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this place and use google map as your navigator.

***) You can also use Go-jek or Grab transport. Their price reasonable, but you have to install the apps first and the driver may not be able to speak english.

*) Don’t try to touch or interact with the baby monkey. The mom will be aggressive to protect the baby.

*) You are forbidden feed the monkey by bread, biscuits or any other human snacks because of the monkey’s health reason.

**) If you want to give a banana to the monkey, don’t you ever try to pull it back again. It triggered them to be aggressive. Just give it and let them take it from your hand.

*) Seems a monkey get used and bored with the photo time. He turn back or avoid from the camera lens.

*) Better you left your bags/backpack in the ticket window. The monkey will curious with the inside of your bags/backpack and try to open it. If you react so over the monkey will triggered to be aggressive and scratching you with his nails. It was happened when i accompanied visitor from Russia.

**) Follow the guidelines is the best way to get safety tour in the Ubud monkey forest.

THE MONKEY LOOKING FOR THE BUGS

*) I thought it will be terrible experience when i visit the monkey forest because of so many review & bad news about monkey attacks & stealing visitor stuff. But, it was not happened at all since i follow the guidelines.  There are so many guard with green uniform in the area will protect and help you. In fact it was the best and safety monkey forest i ever visited with good atmosphere & environment.

**) If you got attacked by monkey you can go to the clinic on the monkey forest area, near the Gate 2. They will give you free service like clean up your wounds, give anti septic like alcohol, etc and put a bandage on your wounds.

***) If you worry about a virus in the monkey, then you can go to Ubud health care for a shot. You can also take a vaccination. Don’t worry about the price, their price is reasonable and the Doctor speak in english. Here the map: Ubud health care.
