WHAT IS MAK BENG RESTAURANT?

DESCRIPTION:

Warung Mak Beng is a  typical seafood menu in Bali. They serve fried fish, fish soup and rice as one package. The sambal (chili sauce) included for sure. But, the dishes famous as fish-head soup (sup kepala ikan).

It was started in 1941 by Ni Ketut Tjuki or famous as Mak Beng. The idea of fish-head soup (sup kepala ikan) came from her husband, I Putu Gede Wirya. The taste of the soup is a little bit sour, spicy with balinese spices ingredients.

OPENING HOURS:
8.00 am – 10.00 pm

*) If you visit it on weekend or Indonesian holiday it will be very crowded by local. Sometime you have to wait to get a table/seat.

LOCATION:
Jl. Hang Tuah No.45, Sanur, Denpasar Sel., Kota Denpasar, Bali 80227

*) It’s very near to the beach. You can walk and relax on the beach after meals.

About 6 km to the east from Denpasar, Bali.

HOW TO GET TO MAK BENG RESTAURANT?

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
There is cheap public transport to get there. Trans SARBAGITA Bus. Ticket only IDR 3,500. First, you must go to halte bus/bus stop of Trans SARBAGITA. Then, you must reach to Sanur 2 halte (halte pantai Sindu), and then take a walk to the restaurant. Ask to the operator if you still confused. Operator will glad to give information. 🙂

From DENPASAR :
please to reach  ‘Pesanggaran’ or ‘Pedungan’ Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then, take Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop in the Matahari Terbit 2 Shelter/Halte.
Then,  take a walk to reach the restaurant .

  • Fee: IDR 3,500.
  • Timetable: No.

Other option: 
Please to reach Ubung Mini/Micro Bus Station first.
Then, take a Bemo (Angkot) at Ubung  – Then, stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
Then, take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop in the Matahari Terbit 1 Shelter/Halte.
Then, take a walk to reach this place.

  • Fee: IDR 15K + IDR 3,500.
  • Timetable: No.

From UBUD :
Please take a Mini/Micro Bus (Bemo) at Ubud – Then, stop at Batubulan Mini/Micro Bus Station.
please take Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop in the Matahari Terbit 1 Shelter/Halte.
Then,  take a walk to reach the restaurant.

  • Fee: IDR 20K + IDR 3,500.
  • Timetable: No.

From KUTA :
please to reach Kuta Central Parking – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
please take Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop in the Matahari Terbit 2 Shelter/Halte.
Then,  take a walk to reach the restaurant .

  • Fee: IDR 3,500.
  • Timetable: No.

From Ngurah Rai Airport :
Please to reach Ngurah Rai International Gate first – Then, find Trans SARBAGITA Bus Shelter/Halte.
Then, take a Trans  SARBAGITA Bus Corridor 2 – Stop in the Matahari Terbit 2 Shelter/Halte.
Then,  take a walk to reach the restaurant.

  • Fee: IDR 3,500.
  • Trans Sarbagita Timetable: 10.45 AM, 12.45 PM, 2.45 PM, 4.45 PM, 6.45 PM and 8.45 PM.

More information about Bali public transportation system:

– Trans Sarbagita Bus Stop/Shelter/Halte.
– Batubulan Micro/Mini Bus Station.
– Ubung Micro/Mini Bus Station.

*) It’s really not efficient trip using public transport in Bali. Waste your time, energy and money. There is no fixed price in Bali transportation system, except Trans Sarbagita. If the passenger full loaded you will get the price above, but if quiet (little) passenger you will pay more expensive. Seems they applied operational cost basis since the public transport not so popular today (quiet).

**) For backpacker i recommend you to rent a scooter to reach this place and use google map as your navigator.

***) You can also use Go-jek or Grab transport. Their price reasonable, but you have to install the apps first and the driver may not be able to speak english.

*) For the European & American the fish soup could be very spicy. Better you order the fried fish only, without the soup and chili sauce.
